Tieng Hat Que Huong students receive Odon Vallet Scholarships
The
Odon Vallet Fund has presented scholarships to nearly 280 students
from HCM City and southern provinces. Among these students, 12 students
of Tieng Hat Que Huong received this financial support (7 scholarships
valued VND 2,200,000/each for intermediate students and 5 scholarships
valued VND 3,300,000/each for university students).
The Odon Vallet scholarships are worth between US$130 and US$220
each, encouraging and providing financial support for excellent
students at high schools and universities across the country.
This
year's recipients were selected from leading high schools and universities,
with some of them attending master training courses at some universities
in HCM City. Such scholarships will be given to a further 386 Vietnamese
students, including 274 secondary school students in Hanoi, following
212 students in Hue who already received their awards on Monday.
The Odon Vallet scholarships were also allocated for some 40 students
from four SOS villages in HCM City and the Mekong River Delta.
Odon
Vallet, the founder of this fund, is a Sorbonne professor of religious
history and philosophy. Vallet decided to grant 800 scholarships
for Vietnamese students in 2001, and plans 1,300 nationwide in the
2003-2004 school year, particularly to those in remote areas.
